LVG - All Triumph Day @ Shuttleworth

LVG - All Triumph Day @ Shuttleworth

Following the success of our midweek, evening car show, we wanted to find a venue that could accommodate a larger gathering and what could be better than The Shuttleworth Museum in Bedfordshire. To start small, we decided to run the event with the local TSSC group and run it for Triumph cars only. We put the word out to all Triumph clubs (TRR, TSSC, Stag Owners, Dolomite, Club Triumph etc to name a few) and decided to seek pre payment (only £10 per car), so we knew what numbers we had to accommodate. Well, it very soon started to take off (no pun intended as the show was at an Aerodrome). By the time we got to the day we had 295 cars paid up and although the early September weather tried to put a major damper on proceedings, we ended up with around 250 Triumphs of all derivatives in the dedicated parking area. The entry charge was all passed to Shuttleworth to help run this wonderful charitable trust and gave entry to all 6 hangers of their collection and also the peaceful Swiss Garden. Tickets also enabled a return entry for 30 days after the show. Many attendees let us know how much they enjoyed the day and lots said they would return to use their tickets, as they had not had time to visit everything, because of the draw to see so many nice Triumphs. Thanks to everyone for attending.

As you can see above, the day started with an enormous downpour and many owners said it was the most rain they had ever driven their Triumph through. We opened at 10am and the rain had just about stopped by then and the dark clouds blew away and the sun came out. By lunchtime people were picnicking behind their cars and many conversations were taking place discussing all things Triumph.

Shuttleworth is the home of the oldest aircraft still flying in the world and most of the museums exhibits remain airworthy or roadworthy in the case of the various vehicles. The photo below shows the Bleriot with a well known TR from an earlier LVG visit.

To try and give attendees a memory of the day we directed anyone arriving in the first 2 hours down in front of the Aerodrome’s Control Tower, so we could take a photo of their arrival, with the pictures emailed out to the owners, after the event.

So that is what LVG put on as an All Triumph Day and now we have to decide if we hold another event next year.
