TR Register Shropshire Group 2018 AGM Minutes

TR Register Shropshire Group 2018 AGM Minutes

The 2018 AGM was held at The Aston, Wellington Road, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 9EJ on Thursday 15th February. There were 47 attendees.

Apologies for absence were received from:

Helen Beresford Richard Scott

John Doyle David King

Reg Holding

Joint Group Leader, Roger Critchley, opened the meeting, introduced Cat Tunnadine, TR Register West Director, and outlined the agenda.

2017 Minutes

Matters Arising:

At the 2017 AGM, Grafton Beddoes expressed doubt that the Cholmondeley Power & Speed event would take place. This was checked and found to be correct. The event was replaced on our calendar by the Braddan Bridge Run & BBQ. Thanks were expressed to Jim & Joan Cook for hosting this.

Otherwise the minutes were passed as accurate

Finances

Group Treasurer, Stuart Heaton, presented the accounts. Last year's shortfall in the payment for commercial shows has now been corrected and the full amount of the price of the tickets is being collected from attendees. At 31/01/2018, the group had a bank balance of £661.86 up from £510.48 at 31/01/2017.

Review of 2017

Roger reported that the Group was healthy with 115 members. Support at meetings and events has increased and 45 members actively take part throughout the year. Our active membership rate is 39%. In addition 8 members who are attached to other groups join in Shropshire events.

The demographic breakdown of the Group's membership is as follows:

Bridgnorth area 20

Telford area 29

Shrewsbury area 17

Market Drayton area 17

Oswestry area 11

Whitchurch area 8

Ludlow area 8

Good support is received from members in all areas other than Bridgnorth and it was suggested that we should arrange some events in that area to encourage local support.

2017 was a busy year and the Group organised:

13 runs including 2 from Alderford

7 Car shows

2 Major Group events:

oThe Group Tour of Norfolk in May

oThe Shropshire Weekend at Mellington Hall in July

Our first ever Workshop day

Several other events including the TR Register International Weekend at Malvern where Group members assisted with the Bring & Buy stall.

Sadly this year, we said goodbye to Linda Smith. Linda was always cheerful and was a very brave lady who will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Members Resolutions

None were received.

Election of Officers

Cat Tunnadine officiated over the election of the officers. The existing leaders and treasurer stood for re-election:

§Seconded by David Somerville

There were no other nominations and the existing officers were re-elected unanimously.

Preview of 2018

A comprehensive calendar of events has been arranged for 2018. It will be kept up to date and can be viewed online at the Group's website: www.tr-register.co.uk/group/shropshire. It will not be published in hard copy.

"What's On" will be published monthly and this will detail forthcoming events on a rolling 3 month basis. It will be distributed digitally and in hard copy at Group Meetings.

Forthcoming Key Events are:

Snowdrop Run – 24th February. Organised by Gordon & Sheena Grant

The March Hare Run – 25th March. A joint run with the Dorset Group

Weston Park – 1st April

Drive it Day: The Seaside Run – 22nd April. Run to Barmouth where we will have a sand castle competition. The Group chose not to have an organised lunch but to have the freedom to eat as they wished.

TR Register Midland Regional Meeting at Gaydon – 7th May. There will be a Group run to this event

North Devon Tour – 13th May to 17th May. Bookings have been received from 31 people in 16 cars

Cholmondeley Power & Speed is again believed not to be taking place.

Alderford Lake Breakfast Meetings. Malcolm Ling is organising these for 20th May and 14th October. Malcolm reported that he is arranging with Eaton Manor for us to attend their Classic Car Day after the May Breakfast Meeting. There will be a run from Alderford Lake to Eaton Manor.

Classics at the College – 2nd June. This is a new event, based at Ellesmere College, in aid of Hope House, the children's hospice. There will a group run to the event.

The Wharf – 14th June. Roger Critchley asked for volunteers to help with the organisation.

Trentham Show – 17th June. Stuart Heaton is contacting Will Loomes of Stoke Group regarding tickets (£5 per car)

RAF Shawbury's Family Day – Malcolm Lainsbury reported that he is awaiting confirmation from RAF Shawbury of the details of this event

The Shropshire Weekend – 20th to 23rd July. This will be organised in association with the Stoke Group's Pots, Pits & Peaks Weekend. We hope to base ourselves at a well known North Shropshire Pub.

Open Road Drives. By popular request these will be introduced for 2018. These will be non-competitive runs on A and B roads in your own time. Open Road Runs will not be convoy runs and their sole purpose will be the enjoyment of the roads and the cars. They will not replace our usual Social runs. Greg Washington and Peter Napier are organising routes.

The Severn Hospice Classic Vehicle Rally to Attingham Park does not appear to be taking place this year.

Llangollen Classic Transport Weekend. This clashes with the TR International and, therefore, no Group visit will be organised to Llangollen. However a few Members have expressed interest in visiting Llangollen for one of the days. Steve Packard is organising.

Workshop Day – there will another Shropshire Group Workshop Day on Sunday 8th July

Other Events

* TR Register International Weekend, Lincoln – 29th June to 1st July

* TR Lakes Weekend in September

* Scottish Weekend – September

* Stoke Group's Trip – 9th to 10th July

* TR Tours to The Pyrenees

* Silverstone Classic

* Traws Cambria

Votes of Thanks

Many Members helped out in 2017. Particular Votes of Thanks were made to:

Jim & Joan Cook for hosting the Braddan Bridge Run and BBQ

Ron & Sandra Jones for hosting the Workshop Day

Steve Packard for the articles in TR Action

Malcolm Lainsbury for RAF Shawbury

Peter Napier for the website

Malcolm Ling for Alderford Lakes and the associated runs

Reg Holding for organising our stands at shows and events.

The Chaz Perks Memorial Trophy

Historically, The Chaz Perks Trophy was awarded annually to the person or persons who have substantially contributed to the club. The award went "missing" for a few years and resurfaced in 2017. The obvious reason was that there was no room on the plinth for any more shields. Malcolm Lainsbury has added an additional plinth which can accommodate over 25 further shields.

The award for 2017 was made to Phil and Alice Desborough whose friendly attitude and unselfish willingness to help out epitomises the meaning of Clubmanship.

Any Other Business

A number of other items were discussed:

Regalia – Alice Desborough asked members to choose items from Galaxy Print's online catalogue at www.galaxyprint.co.uk and order from her. She will place a combined order to minimise post and packing charges.

Sam Plim's funeral will take place on 5th March at 1pm. St Mary's Church Market Drayton

It was decided that we would not take part in the local inter-car clubs' quiz.

The Owestry Stoke Club's Car Show in Shrewsbury on 8th April clashes with The April Fool's Car Show at Whittington Castle. We are hoping to attend the latter event.

The likely impact of the new General Data Protection Regulations was discussed. These Regulations come into effect on 25th May 2018. More information will be available at the Group Leaders Meeting on 4th March which will be attended by Roger Critchley and David Somerville.

Close of Meeting

The meeting closed with Phil Desborough offering thanks to the Group's officers and to all Members who offer help and contribute to the well being of the Group.
