Red Rose Bulletin - December 2022

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Well, its December folks and I hope you have all been good this year!

NOVEMBER ROUND UP

A few of our members visited the NEC for the Classic Motor Show and got to see TS2 on the TR Register stand. I particularly like all the photos of her journey round the country.

GROUP LEADERS MEETING

Jonathan and I attended the recent group leaders meeting at Gaydon on 6th November. And it was basically a repeat of the meeting in March for the benefit of those who had not been able to attend.

Going forward the TR Register is looking at making a number of significant changes.

All members will receive information on these changes but as yet we haven’t been told when that will be or what format it will take and we would ask that you read what is being proposed and give it a fair chance.

The TR Register needs to re-invent itself and move with the times otherwise it will cease to exist and the committee who have been tasked to do this are working hard to make some positive changes that will be of benefit to all members.

It remains to be seen what the future will bring!

NOVEMBER MEETING AND QUIZ

We were back in our new venue for the November meeting and once again it was very well attended. I think we have made the right decision in deciding to hold our future meetings at The Antrobus Arms and so far, the feedback from members has all been very positive.

The meeting took its usual format with updates from Jonathan on the recent GL meeting and on some up coming events for next year which are listed at the end of the bulletin.

We then had our raffle before it was time to hand over to our quiz master David Rhodes and after four very different rounds which included questions on the Royal Family and TV programmes the winning team was declared!

Congratulations to John and Jane Bell, Mike and Pauline Grimes. Phil Bateman and Bernard Hayward.

It was once again a very enjoyable event and I would like to thank David for hosting it. Same time next year then David?

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS

A few members from the group attended the breakfast meet at Hopley House. Approximately 20 cars turned out on a dry but cool morning. The Breakfast was enjoyed by all.

If you had tickets for MG & Triumph Spares Day at Telford they are being transferred. Another date for the diary! 12th February 2023.

Congratulations to Hamish Roscoe on another good year of hill climbing, he has achieved second place in the championship and was also fastest from standing start to 65 feet! Impressive! Don’t sit next to him at the traffic lights he’s gone before you are even in first gear!

If anyone is interested Classic Sports Car Club has published its calendar of events for next year (classicsportscarclub.co.uk) They will be at Oulton Park in September and Croft in October.

As you will know Richard Chandler is our roving reporter for the TR Action and he has asked if members could let him have any car stories he could use in his reports. Things you have done to your car, competitions won, funny failures or ingenious work-arounds, non-Red Rose journeys of note, etc. Please email them to me and I will pass on to Richard. Here are a few ideas of what he has in mind.

David Bailey is in the midst of a major rebuild of a TR5 at the moment. Here is just one photo to whet your appetite. There are plenty more on the Facebook group!

And Hugh Tasker has fitted a hard top complete with sun roof to a TR6.

CHRISTMAS MEAL SUNDAY 11TH DECEMBER

We have now paid the deposit and given all the menu choices to the pub.

We shall be giving out place cards to you on arrival with your menu choices on.

We are very sorry but only those members who have booked will be able to join us for a meal at this meeting as space is very limited and all food has been pre ordered.

We will once again be doing a voluntary collection for a charity instead of Christmas cards.

Don’t forget to wear something festive!
