WHARFEDALE TR's AUTUMN LEAVES RUN SUNDAY 13th OCTOBER

WHARFEDALE TR's AUTUMN LEAVES RUN SUNDAY 13th OCTOBER

Wharfedale Autumn Leaves Run Sunday 13th October

Sunday 13th October had been on our events list since the start of the year. As always deciding where to meet up, where the run should be, and the stops.

We decided to keep this one fairly simple, Phil & Jane Read stepped up and suggested we do a variation on the run that had been planned for our 40th event at Burnsall, but which ended up being truncated due to the weather.

We decided to meet at Bolton Abbey railway station tea rooms, we had met there for our Lake District Crooklands trip back in August. It’s a decent place to meet. I had expected it to be very quiet at our meeting time of 10am, as it supposedly only opens at 10am. Surprise surprise, when we arrived there were quite a few general public cars in the car park, and the tearoom was already busy. It tuned out there was a special dining train on the platform waiting to depart.

It soon quietened down and we managed to get our teas, coffees and bacon butties.

New members Graeme & Jo Powells TR250 at Bolton Abbey railway station, with Helene in the back ground.

We had 10 Wharfedale TR’s, and 3 ringers from friends, an MGC from ex member David Gannon, an F Type Jag from ex member Steve Ellmore, and a Lotus Elise with Antony & Ann.

We left around 10.45, our ultimate destination being the Creamery at Hawes, with a comfort stop on the way in Leyburn, then onto Hawes via Muker and the Buttertubs.

After leaving the station tea rooms we tuned left on to the A59, then shortly after turned right to head through Embsay, to pick up the B6265 to Kettlewell, in Kettlewell we turned right in front of the Blue Bell Inn. We should then have done a quick right and left, we made the right turn, but then missed the left.

The usual cyclist causing some bunching up

After circling Kettlewell we sorted ourselves out and got on the right road, which is unmarked, it starts out as Cam Gill Road, and then takes you up past The Thwaite Arms in Horsehouse, eventually coming out in Middleham, what a road it was, fantastic.

Comfort stop in Leyburn

Hang on, it wasn't supposed to be that kind of comfort stop in Leyburn

From Middleham to Leyburn for a comfort stop, then onto the Creamery at Hawes via Muker and the Buttertubs. A great run out, and the weather behaved as well, a fantastic day.

It was good to meet new Wharfedale members Graeme and Jo Powell, and great that they had decided to join us for the day. They have a very nice looking red 250. They really enjoyed the day, and we certainly hope to see more of them,

Another great Wharfedale outing, thanks to Phil & Jane for the route. Thanks to David Gannon, Graeme Powell and me for the pictures.
