It’s wonderful to report, on a number of TVG activities, as Summer drives ahead. Only wish the weather would follow suit.

Several TVG members made the trek to Gaydon, for the BMC show, along with The Registers 50th

17 cars, with 32 people, went to the Weald & Downland Museum in what proved to be one of the celebration. best summer days this year. A complete power outage on site ensured ice creams were eaten quickly and NO coffee was drunk. It was also good to bump into some of the stars from The Repair shop, who were filming somewhere hidden from the public’s eye.

Brooklands were able to fully open and run the Brooklands Members Retro Jumble & Classic Car Show allowing members to drive cars on to the site. TVG members turned up for a chat and a rummage through the boxes, thanks to Steve and the London group, for allowing me to tag on to their convoy.

August gave us the Malvern meeting, which was a great success, well done Jo and the team. TVG headed to the camp site with a record 12 tents plus gazebo. Janet & I managed to grab third place in the queue, so our regular site was secured. Having built the BBQ, which is a bit like a Meccano set took at least four engineers to construct it, we fired up for Fridays BBQ. Breakfast, on Saturday, for 17 , followed on by 29 for the evenings gathering. Saturday was finished off by Caroline leading us all on the dance floor, thanks to the excellent band and disco. Heads were a little fragile in the morning.

Big thanks to everyone who helped, including Roger my Sous-chef with Janet and Caroline on provisioning. A particular thanks to Bob LeBrocq, who put a towbar onto his TR, and brought along all of the heavy equipment.

We are planning our 50th/51st anniversary with a BBQ at The Surrey Oaks, on Tuesday 31st August. Over 65 people are planning to attend along with the founding fathers of TVG.

20 cars are also signed up to attend the first Horsley Big Day Out event on 5th September, so Summer isn’t over yet !

Very sad news to hear of the death of, a very much loved, friend of many in TVG, Cliff Markham.

Cliff, and his wife Jill, were very active in getting TVG moving in terms of trips and started it off by taking us to Honfleur, back in 2004. We liked it so much we went back again. Cliff and Jill sadly left TVG to move to the West country, where they became very active in the Cornish group, with Cliff taking on the restoration of a TR5. His generosity shone out when I interrupted his round of golf during a Bank Holiday, he went home, removed the water pump from the TR5 and brought it over to me, as mine had broken, somewhere near Boscastle.

Luckily a few of us were able to see Cliff and Jill, after our trip to Somerset.

Our thoughts go out to Jill and her family.

Our regular meetings are at the Stepping Stones pub in Westhumble, Dorking (RH5 6BS) on the third Wednesday of each month from 20:00 and our Sunday lunchtime meetings on the last Sunday of the month at the Surrey Oaks (RH5 5DZ), starting at 12:00.
