Leicestershire TR Group celebrate their Un-Christmas dinner

Leicestershire TR Group celebrate their Un-Christmas dinner

Our monthly meeting was held on the 19th January at the Gate Hangs Well, and was well supported, despite the fact it was the annual AGM. Mick Forey started the AGM, and the nominations were: Leader - Tony Richards; Deputy Group Leader - Andy Holyoak and Phil Gunn working together; Treasurer – Martin Faulkner; combined role of Tripe editor, Social Scene scribe and Website – A triumvirate of Mick Forey, Linda Forey and Sue Faulkner. Before we voted each nominated person gave a few words about how they were intending to fulfil their role. All were elected unanimously. Tony was thanked for his work on Tripe over the last two years, Mick for his leadership, also for the last two years, then Rachael was roundly thanked by everyone for her efforts as treasurer for the last 25 years!! (with no mention of lost monies at a former IWE event - honest). Tony presented her with a plant as a big thank-you. And that was it for the AGM!!

Our annual Un-Christmas dinner was held on Saturday 21st January, and what an excellent knees up it was!! 46 of us were celebrating and staying at the hotel, The Millers in Sibson, and we all congregated in the bar around 6.30, looking very smart in our glad rags. Dinner started with a welcome from Tony, and there was much admiration for the table decorations, a collection of rusty bits of engines, tastefully arranged and decorated for Christmas. As we started our food, many of us tried the table quiz, and rushed back to our rooms for bits and pieces for the treasure hunt. We also eagerly bought raffle tickets in aid of the Air Ambulance having seen the wrapped bags of gifts on our way in. Thanks to TRGB and AVP plus many members for some wonderful prizes. We raised £270 for the local Air Ambulance, thank you for your generosity. After the main course we were treated to a visit from Father Christmas and his elf(ish) helper, complete with a sack of presents for everybody. There was a rush to sit on Santa's knee, and even his elf got into the swing of things.Tony awarded two prizes for the year. The Wheelspinner award for outstanding contributions to the group went to Rachael for her 25 years service as our treasurer, whilst her husband Phil got the Pratt of the year award, which happens to be Rachael's knickers! Pushing a TR7 across a Pelican crossing, not along the road but crossing it! Then, as coffee and tea were served, the disco got going in the adjacent room, and we danced the rest of the night away. Many congratulations to Jennie Holyoak and her helpers for such a well organised and enjoyable evening.
