Glavon Group at Hauser & Wirth Gallery and Gardens, Bruton - 9th June 2024

A mostly sunny but rather fresh day for early June, saw us meeting at The Cross Hands Hotel at Old Sodbury for a scenic run down to Bruton via King Alfred's Tower near Stourhead. This 160' triangular brick tower was built in 1722 and is owned by the National Trust as part of the Stourhead estate. Only one of our party, Jim Gaisford climbed the 205 steps to admire the extensive views from the top!

The route then continued to Bruton and the Hauser & Wirth Gardens and Gallery where we we able to park together and enjoy a picnic, and were joined by TRR members Pete and Miriam Grist who had seen on the website that we were going to be there. We hope to see you both again soon.

We were then able to explore the exhibition galleries and the extensive gardens which also were home to further art installations. There was lots going on there with food being cooked over fire pits, ice creams, live music, farm shop and much more, surrounded by some very interesting historic buildings. Afterwards, the homeward journey took us via Bathampton Toll Bridge. Many thanks to Arthur and Margaret Richardson for organising a great day out. More photos on the Gallery page.
