East Saxons & N London at Limply Stoke

Allan Jezzard Writes:-

The New Year, in terms of TRactivity is slowly coming to life. The Breakfast meet at Poplar Nurseries was well attended and, as I understand it, very successful. Unfortunately, Veronica and I were unable to attend due to her on-going health problems. We believe there’s now a light at the end of the tunnel though.

The winter months are a bit of a problem for TR travelling although for many years, I have driven mine over all 12 months. However, the TR was tucked up at home as we made for Limpley Stoke and Glavon’s now legendary winter bash. East Saxons took seven couples but no TRs. We’ve made it a regular trip to open the year and great fun it is. Each year we meet and enjoy the company of fellow members which I think makes Lesley Swain and her band of helpers’ efforts well appreciated. A popular Saturday outing is quite often a bus ride into Bath but this year Veronica and I fancied something different. I have had a strange yearning to visit Weston-Super-Mare for years. Why, I know not. However, our friends from Wye Dean, Andrew and Sarah offered us a lift. They would normally have been in their TR but it is currently in dock having a new Axminster carpet fitted! Now I’ve been to W-S-M, I can cross it off my “to do” list. It was much nicer than I feared.

The attendance at our club nights is slowly increasing although we have decided to delete the 3rd Thursday of the month visit to West Hanningfield due to poor and sometimes, non-existent attendees. By the time this issue hits the streets, we will have had our AGM, the results of which will be in the next edition but it is likely we will concentrate on just two meeting places (with the Alma, Copford continuing on the last Thursday at the end of each month but our Farmhouse, near Thaxted changing from the first to the second Thursday each month). Watch for our email reminders to confirm!

Also, and very sadly, we have the funeral of Ray Gill, very well known as proprietor of TR Improvements and until it became too much for him, a regular stall holder at the International. What a nice man and always ready to help out when something unexpected happened. Our thoughts are with his widow Helen and family.
