The A30 Retro Run 19th September 2021
Some twenty five years ago the Cornwall Group thought it might be a bit of fun to trace what remained of the original A30 trunk road from Exeter to Land’s End. Plans were put in place and all was looking good until on the morning of the run the weather took a turn for the worse. Twentieth century communication (or lack of) meant that we couldn’t alter arrangements and the resulting attendance was poor. Toys and pram were thrown some considerable distance and the idea was shelved. That was until 1999 when Pete Probst decided he would organise a run through Cornwall, starting at Launceston Rugby Club. This proved to be a great success attracting a wide variety of cars. A re-run took place the following year and was held on 1st October in typical Cornish weather. This year Pete and Ju Probst have continued their fund raising activities for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of the Cape to Cape rally series. They have put in considerable effort and having been delayed for obvious reasons have now organised and delivered a superb event which has raised over £1,800 for their chosen cause. The timing of the run seems appropriate as yet more of the old A30 is about to be buried under the road improvement scheme between Carland Cross and the Chiverton roundabout. Thank you to everyone who took part and to those who contributed to this Gallery section, especially those who braved the deluge at Hayle around lunchtime. Thank you to Rodney for patiently waiting to capture Go-Pro footage for our amusement. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r46ATf8U1p8
