Kennet Valley & Glavon Group joint visit to Milestones Museum, Basingstoke

Glavon TR Group are visiting Milestones Museum and have invited Kennet Valley Group Members to join them, admission charges apply.

Glavon Group intend arriving at circa 12-12.15, they will be on a route from Gloucestershire and intend stopping at Cobbs Farm Shop on the A4 just the other side of Hungerford at circa 10-10.30 for coffee & cakes, if you'd like to join them there, please let us know so we can confirm numbers to Cobbs, alternatively you can join them along their route to Milestones

Martin & Elaine of Glavon Group are organising a visit to Hampshire’s Museum of Living History displaying a detailed recreation of life from the Victorian times through to the 1930s and 1940s. Cobbled streets to a seaside pier, teddy bears, vintage vehicles, an operating pub, sweet shop and more….

The museum has a pub and other options for refreshments. For lunch the museum has the café with simple menu or bring a picnic – there are tables but outside. If we have 15 or more of us we will have a group discount - £14 for adult entry covering all museum areas (normally £18.50 or £15.00 for concessions). We can pay at reception on arrival.

Logistics, If the weather is looking OK we may get the TR out of hibernation. We plan to gather for coffee and comfort break at Cobbs Farm Shop around 10:15am https://www.cobbsfarmshops.co.uk/ a mile west of Hungerford (Bath Road A4, Hungerford RG17 0SP). Move on from Cobbs by 11:15am through Newbury and down the A339 to arrive at Milestones by around 12:15pm. Where we will meet up with members of Kennet Valley Group. We will have (some) reserved parking.

Suggested route from Cobbs Farm Shop to Milestones, Basingstoke Leisure Park, Churchill Way West, Basingstoke RG22 6PG, which will take circa 45 minutes.

Mostly A roads or good lanes. Short section of A34. This avoids working through Newbury.

From Cobbs, A4 east through Hungerford

Straight across the roundabout just west of the A34, over A34 and take a left at next roundabout to join A34 going south

Leave A34 2nd junction, marked Burghclere, Newtown B4640

At roundabout top of slip road go straight over taking minor road alongside A34. Brown sign for Beacon Hill, Highclere Castle (Winchester Road and then WhiteHill).

2 miles from roundabout take left turn to Kingsclere and Old Burghclere

At Kingsclere get onto A339 headed southeast for Basingstoke

Approaching Basingstoke from the NW on the A339, follow brown signs for Leisure Park, taking 2nd Exit (straight on) at first roundabout, 2nd exit (right) at the second roundabout and 3rd exit (right) at the third roundabout. At the fourth (West Ham) roundabout take the 6th exit signed to Milestones then immediately left and follow signs to Milestones

Just to note Glavon intend to get to Milestones for 12/12.15ish. It's pay at reception with group rate, which is very slightly less than normal concession rate, the group visit is under the name Glavon TRs/Martin Hall. Glavon have just 10 parking spaces reserved; will try to keep those for any TRs that turn up. Plenty of general parking.

Stay as long as you like – the museum closes at 4:45pm
