Hellfire Caves

The Hellfire Caves are a network of man-made chalk and flint caverns which extend 0.25 miles underground. They are situated above the village of West Wycombe, at the southern edge of the Chiltern Hills near High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, Southeast England.

We will meet in our usual meeting place in Hartley Wintney at around 09:15 for a 9:45 departure. The run of approximately 35 miles will be along A and B roads. On arrival we will ascend a short steep climb to a hill top providing fantastic views over High Wycombe and surrounding areas. While on the hill we will visit the Dashwood family Mausoleum and St Lawrence Church with a Golden Ball.

From there we will walk or drive down the hill to visit the caves

Entry prices are £8 per person or £7 for National Trust members, that you will be pay on the day. They do offer group rates but we will need to have over 20 members to qualify so the more the merrier.

We are looking into either some lunch or a further local visit in the afternoon that we will publish at a later date.

There is a lot of lurid history associated with the caves which should make for a very interesting and enjoyable day out.
